About International RoboBoat Competition

roboboat

RoboBoat or International RoboBoat Competition (IRC) is a competition that invites participants to tackle simplified versions of challenges facing the modern maritime industry.

Barunastra ITS has started participating in this competition since 2016 and this year, the competition is a little different because it is held online.

Modularity

There are some new tasks in this year's roboboat like water blast challenge and skeeball game challenge, so we need more flexibility to do quick design iteration.

By having a modular design, the quick design iterations can be easily achieved. Modularity allows our ship to be divided into independent parts. These parts could be created, modified, replaced and exchanged independently with other modules or between different systems. Moreover, a modular design allows us to ship the ASV as a flight baggage by splitting the ASV into parts that fit the dimension requirement for baggage.

WEEK 1

Hull Outfitting and Electrical Assembly

Hull and frame are assemble with the electrical component as the main data processor of the Nala Theseus. The navigation, shooting, and propulsion system are set so that the ship is ready to do its mission.

WEEK 2

Building The Arena

An arena that resembles real challenges is built in the pond near our basecamp. Arenas were made from recycled materials which are environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, unexpected weather makes us need to replace some parts of the arenas.

WEEK 1-4

Ship Trial and Missions Attempt

When the ship and arena are ready, the trials are conducted daily to evaluate the ship performance. The ship is tested under several circumstances to check its ability to do all the missions assigned. There are some mistakes that we encountered here, but we never gives up and keep improving our robot to be better day by day.

WEEK 1-2

Big Brain Time !!

With a ship currently in the optimization process, the ship's performance is compared with the simulated data during the design process. Then, the data gathered are compiled into a single paper. The biggest challenge is how to unify technical and non-technical matters so that the paper is written both in written style and in technical explanation

Furthermore, together with the trial, competition video began to be produced.
